THE SERVICE
-
We provide trained
professional mediators of the restorative justice process to facilitate
conferences (also known as victim-offender mediations).
-
The process is
voluntary for youthful offenders who want to repair the harm to their
victims the restorative way.
-
We provide victim
advocates who will support the person who has been harmed through the
restorative justice process. If the victim is unable to attend the
conference, our victim advocate will sit in for him or her to ensure
their voice is heard.
-
These cases can be
referred to us through the school, through law enforcement, or through
the courts.
-
We will take
appropriate cases post crime based on the judgment of the school or
court. Most of these will be minor to moderate infractions or crimes
such as shoplifting/theft, bullying, simple assault, disorderly conduct,
vandalism, and first-time drugs or weapons violations.
-
Restorative justice
is NOT SOFT ON CRIME. It is far more difficult for offenders to face
their victims than to sit in a jail cell and not have to be accountable
to the person who was harmed by their behaviors. As leaders in our
community it is our responsibility to guide our youth to responsible
adulthood. YOU CAN HELP.
